Born in South Korea but raised in Norway, Oslo police detective Marian Dahle makes her first appearance as the main character in Jeg vet hvor du bor.  Marian is a complicated character.  Her adoption was not a story with a happy ending, and her closest friend is her dog Birka.  Badly injured on a previous case, Marian is working cold cases, and it is soon apparent that the cold case she’s investigating is not just a matter of the past.  Lindell always gives her readers a lot to talk about, so please join us as we continue reading and discussing this novel.  This class is conducted in Norwegian and includes grammar review.

HJEM TIL JUL

Genre: Romantisk komedie

We will use a variety of media sources including Netflix

This romantic comedy series, set in the Norwegian town of Røros was released on Netflix in 2019 and is both heartwarming and scathingly funny and realistic. It shows Norwegian Christmas traditions of the past and present in a light that many in the US may not yet have experienced. The main characters speak with recognizable dialects, and supporting characters appear with coastal dialects, as well as Danish, Swedish, and even English dialogue.

This course seeks to stimulate meaningful conversation about the foreign culture and ourselves, while providing a safe space to discuss linguistic differences and aural literacy to help us continue our study of the Norwegian language. We will emphasize listening comprehension as we view all six episodes and work through take-home listening exercises. Our culminating project will be an essay that we will share for our final class.
