Norskeklubben is a Norwegian language and culture group for kids ages 5-12 that explores the theme sanger og fortellinger (songs and stories).

norskeklubbenosloroomThe idea for the Norskeklubben program was originated by MNLCP committee member Jeannette Henrikssen in 2019 and was envisioned as a collaboration between Mindekirken, Mindekirken’s Norwegian Language & Culture Program and Concordia Language Villages.

The intention with Norskeklubben was to bring together children and families with a common interest in a fun and relaxed setting where they could make friends and have fun while still learning. The program would be free as an outreach program of both organizations. The class would be taught by Concordia staff, administered by the MNLCP and hosted at Mindekirken.

The first class was held in the fall of 2019 with about 7 kids attending, and it has blossomed since then. Eventually the program was wholly taken over by the MNLCP. Program administrator, Krista Schweppe has led the program and collaborated with co-instructors Sofie Urberg Carlson and Synneva Bratland over the past three years.

This last year roughly 20 kids have been a part of Norskeklubben and some highlights have included meeting Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, singing fun and silly Norwegian songs during allsang, and exploring around Mindekirken while on skattejakt for new Norwegian words and expressions.

As we begin planning for 2024-2025 MNLCP is committeed to continuing to offer Norskeklubben as a way to pique kids’ curiosity for and interest in norsk and Norge. Velkommen!
