ROALD AMUNDSEN’S PRIVATE DIARY | ONLINE

The world-famous polar explorer Roald Amundsen, the first person to reach the South Pole, carefully cultivated his public image. He extensively documented his expeditions in his journals, anticipating each of them would be published. But he also kept a private diary, addressed to the married Englishwoman Kristine Elisabeth “Kiss” Bennett, whom he’d secretly loved for the past decade. The diary offers an intimate, humanizing, and sometimes unflattering glimpse into the life of the man behind the myth.
